This video features a discussion on the correct translation into English of the Sanskrit word “tu” in the context of Bhagavad-gita verse 1.2 (Chapter 1, Verse 2).
Various previous translations of this verse, and of various Gita commentaries, are provided (Winthrop Sargeant, A.C. Bhaktivedantta Swami Prabhupada, Bhaktivedanta Narayana Goswami, Swami Gambhirananda), but none of them are entirely satisfactory.
An alternative English translation is provided, based on Apte’s observations on the usage of “tu” in his 1925 edition of The Student’s Guide to Sanskrit Composition.
